People look for Simpro alternatives for two different reasons. Some are trade businesses that find Simpro too heavy and too expensive for the service and maintenance work they do. Others are contractors whose work has shifted towards fixed-price projects, and they want tighter control over budgets, orders and claims than a field service system was built to give.
This page is split by the job you need done. If you run callouts, service and maintenance, go to the field service section: Tradify, Fergus, ServiceM8, AroFlo, Joblogic, Commusoft and BigChange, ranked on their own merits. If your work has moved to fixed-price projects and you need job cost control, go to the project cost control section. Planyard is our product, so we rank it only in that second section and say plainly what it does not do. Prices are the regular rates on each vendor’s own pricing page in October 2026, in GBP for the UK and AUD for Australia.
Why contractors look beyond Simpro
- There is no published price. Every customer gets a quote based on office users, field users and add-ons, plus an initial setup fee for onboarding, training and data migration.
- The base plan covers quoting, scheduling, stock, field operations, invoicing and reporting, so a small team may pay for modules it hardly opens.
- Rollout is a project of its own: Simpro offers implementation consultants who can spend days at your office, and job types, workflows, mobile and billing all need setting up.
- On project work, the commercial questions a QS or project manager asks (committed cost, cost to complete, CVR) sit next to the job card. Test that part hardest in a demo if your work is mostly projects.
- AroFlo and BigChange, two common shortlist names, belong to the same group as Simpro, which matters if you are leaving because of the vendor.
What to look for in a Simpro alternative
Start by deciding which kind of business you are. If most of your jobs are reactive callouts and planned maintenance, you need a field service tool: job cards, a dispatch board, a mobile app for engineers, certificates and stock. Check that it syncs with your accounting software, that pricing works for your mix of office and field staff, and how long the contract runs.
If most of your revenue comes from projects, look at the commercial side instead: a budget per project, purchase orders and subcontracts counted as committed cost when they are raised, valuations or progress claims with retention, and a forecast that moves when costs are approved. In the UK that includes CVR and CIS handled in your accounting software. In Australia it includes progress claims under the security of payment rules, GST and a sync to MYOB or Xero.

What Simpro costs in the UK and Australia
Simpro sells one base plan with add-ons and does not publish a price in either country. The base plan covers quoting and estimating, field and contractor scheduling, inventory and purchasing, field operations, invoicing and payments, and reporting. Add-ons include Digital Forms, Data Feed, Maintenance Planner, Takeoffs, Simtrac GPS fleet tracking and SMS.
The quote depends on team size, split between office and field users, and on the add-ons you choose. You can pay monthly or annually. Simpro also charges an initial setup fee for onboarding, training and data migration, which grows with the amount of customisation and whether a consultant works on site. For a full side-by-side on rollout, reporting and pricing, see Simpro vs Planyard.
Best for field service and maintenance work
These seven tools replace Simpro for service, maintenance and small works: job cards, scheduling, an app for engineers, and invoicing. They are ranked for that job, closest fit for most Simpro users first.
1. Tradify – Best for small trade teams that want simple job management

Tradify covers quoting, scheduling, job tracking, timesheets, invoicing and online payments, with a mobile app for the team on site. It is aimed at electricians, plumbers, gas engineers, HVAC and property maintenance businesses, and it is much quicker to learn than Simpro.
Billing is month to month with no contract, and the Tradify team helps with setup and training.
Best for: owner-operators and small teams who want job management without a long rollout.
Watch out for: job costing and bill tracking sit on the higher plans, and there is no project budget, committed cost or forecast.
Pricing: UK from £34 per user a month. Australia: Lite A$48, Pro A$52, Plus A$62 per user a month ex GST. 14-day free trial.
2. Fergus – Best for plumbing and electrical businesses up to 10 staff

Fergus sells in Australia and the UK. It covers quoting and estimating, price books, job cards, scheduling, timesheets, purchase orders, invoicing and job phases, and it syncs with Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB. Australian plans include hazards and SWMS.
Billing is monthly with no lock-in, and every plan includes a free one-hour onboarding session.
Best for: small trade businesses that want purchase orders and job phases at a low monthly price.
Watch out for: firms with more than 10 staff go onto a custom Enterprise quote, and timesheet users cost extra.
Pricing: UK: Essentials from £39 and Professional from £45 a month; timesheet users from £12. Australia: Essentials from A$53 and Professional from A$77 a month; timesheet users from A$26. The pricing page often shows an introductory discount; these are the regular prices. 14-day free trial.
3. ServiceM8 – Best for small service businesses that want to pay per job

ServiceM8 prices by the number of new jobs a month, and paid plans have unlimited users. Every plan includes job cards, scheduling, quotes, invoices, mobile payments and sync with Xero, QuickBooks Online or MYOB. Higher plans add forms and certificates.
For a business with many staff and a modest job count it can cost a fraction of a per-user tool. The Free plan suits a sole trader doing up to 30 jobs a month.
Best for: small service and repair businesses with steady, short jobs.
Watch out for: it is built around single jobs, so multi-stage projects with budgets and staged claims do not fit well.
Pricing: UK: Free, Starter £25, Growing £59, Premium £119, Premium Plus £269 a month. Australia: Free, Starter A$29, Growing A$79, Premium A$149, Premium Plus A$349 a month inc GST. No lock-in. 14-day free trial.
4. AroFlo – Best for Australian trades with stock, assets and compliance work

AroFlo is the closest like-for-like Simpro alternative in Australia. It covers quoting, job management, scheduling, timesheets, inventory and stock control, supplier catalogues from over 600 suppliers, asset maintenance, safety forms and Gantt-chart project management. It syncs with Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and Reckon.
AroFlo is part of Simpro Group, so moving to it changes the product but not the vendor.
Best for: established Australian electrical, plumbing, HVAC and fire businesses with stock and maintenance contracts.
Watch out for: it is sold in Australia and New Zealand only, and the minimum is three users.
Pricing: From A$80 per user a month, minimum three users, with the per-user rate falling as you add licences. GPS tracking and the AI bill scanner are paid add-ons.
5. Joblogic – Best for UK service and maintenance contractors

Joblogic is a UK-built field service system used by over 7,000 UK businesses. The Standard plan covers job management, scheduling, quoting, invoicing and the engineer app. Premium adds route scheduling, engineer tracking, timesheets, purchase orders and invoicing, and Enterprise adds schedule of rates, PO approvals and goods received notes.
It integrates with Xero, Sage and QuickBooks, and it is strong on gas certificates, F-Gas compliance and planned maintenance.
Best for: UK maintenance contractors with recurring service contracts and compliance paperwork.
Watch out for: most customers sign 24 or 36-month contracts (12 months is possible), and larger projects can carry an onboarding fee.
Pricing: Standard from £45 per user a month, billed annually. Premium and Enterprise by quote. Free trial on Standard.
6. Commusoft – Best for UK heating, plumbing and electrical firms

Commusoft covers job scheduling, job tracking, job costing, quoting, a mobile app, stock control, digital forms, asset maintenance and service contracts. It integrates with Xero and QuickBooks Online.
Every office user, manager and engineer needs a licence. You can add monthly rolling licences for seasonal hires and daily licences for subcontractors.
Best for: established UK heating, plumbing and electrical companies that want a mature field service suite.
Watch out for: Commusoft does not publish prices on its plans page, and standard plans run on a 12-month contract.
Pricing: Quote only. Standard plans are on a 12-month contract.
7. BigChange – Best for UK firms with large field teams and fleets

BigChange, based in Leeds, combines CRM, job scheduling, job sheets, a mobile app, live vehicle tracking, quoting and invoicing, and business intelligence. Extras include fleet, fuel cards and dashcams. It integrates with Xero and Sage.
Simpro Group bought BigChange in October 2024, so it sits in the same group as Simpro and AroFlo.
Best for: UK field service firms with large engineer teams and vehicle fleets.
Watch out for: there is no published price and, like Simpro, it is a large all-in-one system to roll out.
Pricing: Quote only.
Running projects in Simpro and budgets in Excel?
Planyard tracks budgets, orders and claims per project and syncs approved costs to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or MYOB. 14-day free trial, no credit card.
Best for project cost control
This section is for contractors whose work has grown into fixed-price projects and who now keep budgets, orders and claims in spreadsheets beside their field service tool. What you need here is cost control per project, and dispatch matters much less.
1. Planyard – Best for project-based contractors who outgrew a field service tool

Planyard is construction cost control software for builders, main contractors and trade contractors whose work is mostly projects. Each project gets a budget by cost code. Purchase orders and subcontracts count as committed cost when they are raised, supplier invoices are matched to them, and the forecast moves as costs are approved. Approved bills then sync to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or MYOB with the right codes, so the ledger stays in your accounting software.
On the Professional plan you also get client valuations (progress claims in Australia), variations and retention. The Ultimate plan adds subcontractor payment applications, RFQs and CVR version history. UK firms use it for a live CVR; Australian builders use it to issue and assess progress claims.
Planyard does not do what Simpro does in the field. It has no dispatch board, no stock control, no asset maintenance and no takeoff. A service and maintenance business should pick one of the tools below. A contractor that bought Simpro for its project module and now runs budgets in Excel beside it is who Planyard was built for.
Best for: contractors who mainly run fixed-price projects and want budgets, orders, claims and forecasts in one place on top of their accounting software.
Pair it with: a field service tool such as Tradify, Fergus or ServiceM8 if you still run callouts and maintenance alongside projects, because Planyard does not replace one. CIS deductions and returns stay in Xero, QuickBooks or Sage.
Pricing: Estimating £40, Essential £82, Professional £123, Ultimate £164 per project manager a month; supporting staff £33. In Australia: A$82, A$166, A$250 and A$333; supporting staff A$49. Enterprise by quote. 14-day free trial. See UK pricing and AU pricing.
"All in all, between the two of us on the finance side, we are saving 10 to 12 hours every single day. The administrative time savings have been immense."

"With Planyard, the workflow is significantly more efficient; once the information is loaded, the system automatically generates the progress claim and a professional PDF that can be issued back to the subcontractor within just 30 minutes. Previously, assessing a subcontractor claim manually in Excel was a time-consuming ordeal. Now, we're saving roughly two hours per claim, allowing us to turn around documentation faster and maintain much better momentum on-site."

How we chose
We started from the tools that rank for “Simpro alternatives” in the UK and Australia and kept the ones that sell in at least one of those markets and serve the same trades as Simpro. Prices come from each vendor’s pricing page on the date at the top. Where a vendor shows an introductory discount, we list the regular price, and where it publishes nothing, we say so. Planyard is our product, and we list it for project cost control only.
Our recommendation
If you are leaving Simpro over cost and complexity and your work is service and maintenance, shortlist by market. In Australia that means ServiceM8 or Tradify for small teams, Fergus if you want purchase orders and job phases, and AroFlo if you need stock and asset maintenance. In the UK, Tradify and ServiceM8 suit small teams, and Joblogic or Commusoft suit maintenance contractors with compliance work.
If your work is mostly projects, the field service question matters less than cost control. Planyard gives you budgets, committed cost, claims and forecasts on top of your accounting software. Compare the two on the Simpro vs Planyard page, or see more options in the best construction job costing software.
